Cool Weekend

  • Mood:

Well, last week I was sooooo excited because I was finally going to be able to do something that I had never done before on Saturday...but the day came and we went to the meeting place but the person that was supposed to call and lead us to the place where said thing was going to occur never did show up or give us a call.  I was totally disappointed.  I'm still not going to say what it is because I don't want to jinx it and I really want to do it.  This morning when I was still lamenting the fact that it didn't happen, a thought came into my mind...I did tell someone what I was going to do...that must have been why it didn't happen.  I'm going to have to be more tight lipped about it this time around.

So with that morning's disappointment put aside, my Saturday evening was awesome!  I went to a concert at the TRAC.  I have never been to a full blown concert before.  I've been to mini concerts that are put on for mother's day in the center of town but this was different.  The concert started at 8:00 p.m. but my aunt, who is recently single and ready to mingle  , said we should wait until 9:00 because, in her words, "the concert won't start at 8:00."  I had a feeling that that wasn't right but I patiently waited for her to give the go-ahead.  We got to the TRAC and the place was jam packed...the line of cars waiting to get in to find parking was loooong.  They were charging $5 for parking so when I approached the person that was recieving the money (he was an old, grey haired man with a perverted smile) he says, as I hand him the five bucks, "did you come alone?" and then gives me this creepy smile.  I didn't think anything of it and just innocently said, "no we're two people" because he was handing out a ticket and I thought he was asking so that he could give me the correct number of tickets.  So he hands me just one ticket and tells me to turn left and look for a parking spot...that confused me but I did what he said.  As I turn I realize that he was trying to "hit" on me (if you can even call it that) and all I could think was "EWWW!"    So, I finally find a parking spot and I'm wearing these killer heels, brand new, so the moment I start walking they start hurting my feet.  I was like, "I hope they have seating because I'm not used to these shoes yet."  Like I said before, I had never been to a concert and all the concerts I had seen were on t.v. and all those were of people standing so I was praying that this wasn't going to be the case for us.  We walk in and the place is packed.  There were handsome guys, sharply dressed, all over the place!  We head up these stairs that leads us to this arena where bull wrangling takes place but they had put in a new floor and what not to make it more suitable for a concert.  We look for a good place in the bleachers, since the concert had already started.  All I could think was "I told you so.  We should have come earlier."  The first group that we listened to was "Arranque Norteno."  Oh yeah, did I forget to mention that this was a spanish concert?  I popped out my digital camera and started playing around with the settings to see which took the best picture.  We weren't really that far from the stage but when you look at the pictures it seems like we were way out in the boonies.  They sounded like Ramon Ayala so I liked them.  When they left the stage my aunt asked if we could go over to the beer garden to buy ourselves something to drink.  So it took us forever to get down the stairs...although people were moving up and down them it seemed like there was a bottleneck and no one was moving.  When we made it to the stairs, I carefully walked down them because on my first step my heel went throught the little holes in the stairs.  Luckily I was holding onto the rail otherwise I would have fallen.  That wouldn't have been anything new for me because I'm notoriously known for falling down stairs in front of large amounts of people (first example, my high school graduation!).    When we got to the gate, there was someone there asking for IDs.  I had mine but since my aunt left her purse in the car she forgot to take it out.  We thought great, the car is parked so far away but lets go get it.  So we get as far as the entry way and the security guards stop us and ask us if we were leaving.  I responded "no, we're just going to the car to pick something up."  She says, "if you leave the building you will not be let back in."  When she said that, I remembered seeing signs that said that but I thought it was going to be only for the guys since they were the ones that were being charged for their entrance...the girls could come in free.  So I kind of figured it didn't pertain to us girls.  I told her that I had read the signs and what I thought they meant and she's like, "we're sorry but that's what we were told."  I said, "we're just going to the car to get her ID."  The lady just shook her head...we shrugged our shoulders and wen't back to the concert.  The second act to follow was "Los Canarios de Nacho."  They were cool.  I had never heard them sing before but I ended up liking them.  They were very funny too...making little cracks here and there about their sexuality...they were 100% macho but you know how guys are about that.  One of the musicians had a harp and he was holding it and dancing with it like he was dancing with a lady.    After them followed the big acts, "Banda Maguey" and "Banda Quisillos."  I sang and swayed to the music, took crazy amounts of pictures of all of them, people watched (cuz there were a lot of cute guys there) and a lot of 'interesting' people who had interesting ways of dressing, doing their hair and dancing.  I noticed that some were totally out of step with their dance moves...right now "el pasito duranguense" is hot but when you're dancing to banda that doesn't really look good...how can I describe this...well, it's kind of like doing the electric slide at a sock-hop...see how that doesn't really fit.   We stayed until 2:00 a.m.  The last big act continued singing until then because people were saying they didn't want to go home yet.  The TRAC people had already put away all the liquor, the lights were turned back on and to top it off the security people were so rude.  One mean looking security guy got on stage, yelled at the audience to back up (the audience was calm, they weren't pushing up against the security gates and yet they were still being yelled at)  and just scowled at them and looked at the artists on stage as if saying "stop being so famous."    There was no need for that at all.  All in all it was an awesome night even though my blood sugar got low and it had physical effects on me the next day (headache, dizzyness, nausea and I didn't even have a drop of alcohol...go figure!)  They announced that on June 21st "Montez de Durango" was going to come to the TRAC.  I hope we can go.
