Your Baby Can Read!

  • Mood:

Sunday I was home alone and I was channel surfing and something caught my attention.  It was an infomercial advertising these 'learn how to read' videos.  They had babies, I think the youngest were eight months old, and they were reading!!!  I was glued to that tv set wanting to learn more.  It was basically started by a first time father who didn't want his daughter to watch mindless television.  He went out into the real world and started the process of writing words and then showing the baby what the word was through a home-made video.  The word spread about this video and he was basically making copies for his friends.  He said he didn't want people to see his little embarrasing video but he was curious to find out of this was going to work for other children besides his daughter.  It worked and now its a little more advanced both in the difficulty of the words, the graphics and all that.  Ok, so this is what it basically was...it was a learning method where in the video a word came up on the screen, it was read out loud, then a video or image was shown of the word along with the word being read out loud.  Simple I know...but it really works!

They had home videos of mothers that had previously ordered these videos and had proven results.  I was amazed.  Here were these little babies, who were still pooping in their pants and they were reading.  One mother said she was skeptical, that maybe her baby had memorized the sequence of the words and was just saying them but he proved her wrong.  She had cards with words on them and she would show the baby the word(s), for example, 'arms up,' the baby would look at the card and then do what the card said...he put his arms up in the air and then mom showed the camera the card which said exactly what he was doing.  Some babies either read the words on the card or motioned to the parent what the card said, for example, 'mouth,' and the baby would point to his mouth.  They showed a little snip-it of a baby, around crawling age, that was on the floor with his letter toys and he spelled his name.  There was a 2 1/2 year old that was reading a math sentence.  It said something about parallelograms and huge words like that and he was reading them without stuttering!  That amazed me so much.  How many of you know an eight month old baby that can read?  Better yet a four year old.  Most of the children, around pre-school age, barely know how to write their name let alone read.

I was hooked.  I wanted to order those videos sooooo badly but there was a flaw...I have no baby!  I'm not even a mother!  I was just so amazed at the results that I wanted to give 'my children' the opportunity to get an early start in the learning process.  I want my babies to start building their brain connections at an early age so that they don't have learning disabilities when they start school.

Take a look at the website and you will see the videos that I was mentioning before...it will leave you with your mouth open!
